About Our Church

Freedom Baptist Church History

Jesus said in Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." On July 18, 2001, twenty-eight people gathered together in the name of Jesus to meet and worship the Lord for the first time as a group. Songs of praise were sung, special prayers were prayed, and a message was brought from the Word of God. Also, the idea of organizing a church was discussed. The decision was made to pray and wait patiently on the Lord before the final decision to organize would be made.

On July 22, 2001, thirty-nine people attended the first Sunday morning service. The Sunday morning attendance record since that first Sunday morning is 107. On August 22, 2001, at the Wednesday night service, the motion was made to form a local church. There was a second to the motion, and the vote was unamious in favor of forming a local church. The name FREEDOM BAPTIST CHURCH was selected as the church name. The Lord has blessed this work from the very beginning. There was a piano donated as well as chairs, various pieces of furniture, song books, and many other items. There was a pulpit built from scratch and donated by one of the members. The first couple months the meetings were held in the basement of one of the members. The church quickly out grew the basement. A metal building was then donated for the use of the church. Members assembled and built a pulpit and choir platform, sewed and hung curtains and petitions, installed heaters and air conditioners, cleaned donated chairs, and cleaned and decorated our new meeting place. Currently, Freedom Baptist Church is still meeting in the metal building. In February, 2002, Freedom Baptist Church purchased 11.127 acres on Hwy 64 East and Cornatzer Road for a church building, a cemetery, and a future church parsonage.

On February 13, 2002 and March 5, 2002, Freedom Baptist Church lost two of its most beloved members, in the death of Mrs. Bessie Sechrest and the Rev. Vann Poplin. They are truly missed. Both Ms. Bessie and Bro. Vann would probably quote if they could Philippians 1:21 "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Freedom Baptist Church was forced to start its cemetery before it started its church building.

On September 29, 2002, Freedom Baptist Church voted in its first Pastor, Rev. William (Will) Pryor. Pastor Pryor has a wife (Tina) and 3 children (Abby,Andrew,Alex) and live in Advance. If you need any information about Freedom Baptist Church, you can reach Pastor Pryor at 336-998-4655 or e-mail at

Wpryor4655@Aol.Com. Freedom Baptist Church continues to grow and is filled with excitement about building its new church building.

On November 10, 2002, at 4:30 P.M., Freedom Baptist Church held its official ground breaking and dedication service on its new property. A couple of songs were sung and then Pastor Pryor brought a message and prayed for the future of Freedom Baptist Church. Then, Brother Don Smith (oldest male member) was given the honor of breaking ground for the building of Freedom Baptist Church. Then, all the members circled the shovel and held hands. A prayer was then said, asking God to continue to bless Freedom Baptist Church in a mighty way, and the congregation sang Amazing Grace.

Construction began in early 2003 and moved slowly because of the unusually wet conditions. Pastor Pryor reminded us on more than one occasion that God would complete the construction within his timetable and not ours. God continued to bless with new members and a growing resolve in the membership to be faithful and God will bless his people.

On October 26th, 2003, the church at 118 Cornatzer Road opened the doors for the first time. The excitement was simply overwhelming as God’s Presence

Plan Of Salvation

All are sinners: As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Romans 3:10

Price on Sin: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

Jesus Paid the Price: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Confess and Believe: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10: 9-10

Having been led, as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spiritually; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of, and use of, intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech, to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God*s Word.

Duly adopted by the church in the manner prescribed herein, this day of , 2002.

Clerk
